PRESENTACIÓN
La ciudad de Santiago de
Guayaquil fue fundada en el año 1535
por el español FRANCISCO DE ORELLANA,
quien en el tercer intento por asentar en
este sitio una ciudad puerto, venciendo
los avatares del destino, logro poner la
primera piedra que origen al nacimiento
de esta gran urbe.
Al llegar al año
2000, después de mas de 450 años
de su fundación, la ciudad de Guayaquil,
entra al siglo XXI con una cara renovada,
con una proyección hacia lo moderno
que le permitirá llegar a ser una
de las ciudades mas cosmopolitas de América
Latina. Transformada como lo sentimos los
guayaquileños, por LEÓN FEBRES-CORDERO
RIBADENEYRA, alcalde de la ciudad en el
periodo de 1992 – 2000 y ex Presidente
Constitucional de la Republica en el periodo
1984 – 1988. Este sobresaliente guayaquileño
que entregó parte de su vida al desarrollo
del país y de esta ciudad, primero
como empresario y después como político,
y quien logro darle una nueva imagen a la
ciudad de Orellana, se ha hecho merecedor
del agradecimiento de todos los que vivimos
en esta maravillosa urbe, y acreedor de
la admiración de los que conocemos
su obra.
Este trabajo es un testimonio
grafico de Guayaquil, que estamos seguros
también usted, querido lector, podrá
admirar al pasar las paginas de este libro,
compendio del corazón de los guayaquileños.

PRESENTATION
The city,
Santiago de Guayaquil, was founded in 1535
by the spaniard FRANCISCO DE ORELLANA, who
in his third attempt to establish a port
city, conquering all odds, succeeded in
planting the rock that gave birth to a great
city.
Now, in the
year 200, after more than 450 years of its
foundation, the city of Guayaquil enters
the XXI century with a renovated face, and
a projection toward modernism which will
allow Guayaquil to become one of the most
cosmopolitan cities of Latin America, transformed,
as the “Guayaquileños”
feel by LEÓN FEBRES-CORDERO, mayor
of the city during the period of 1992 –
2000 and former President of the Republic
of Ecuador from 1984 to 1988. This outstanding
“Guayaquileño” has given
part of his life to the development of this
country and this, his city, first as an
entrepreneur and then as a politician, he
succeeded in giving a new image to Orellana’s
city, receiving the appreciation of all
who live in this wonderful city, and the
admiration of the people who knows his work.
This work
is a graphic testimony of Guayaquil, and
we are sure that you too, dear reader, will
be able to admire it through the pages of
this book, which is the epitome of the heart
of the “Guayaquileños”.
